Factory Floor brings industrial evolution to Neepsend

02 Sep 2020

A brand new bar concept from the team behind Sheffield’s popular Peddler Market opens to the public this Friday 4 September 2020.

Occupying a former spring factory on Burton Road in Neepsend, Factory Floor is set to combine Drip Infusion Methodology, Tank Beer and cutting-edge acoustics to create an industrial drinking experience, unlike anything else in the UK.

But what exactly is “drip fusion” and “tank beer” you may ask? Here’s a bit more background on what to expect from Sheffield's innovative new venue and why you should visit…

The Drips
Looking up at the bar, your gaze will be met by an unfamiliar system of apparatus. Reminiscent of a laboratory, this equipment is responsible for a unique process that creates’s Factory Floor’s trademark drips. Atop the vast structure crawling its way up the wall, you’ll find an array of spirits, each the base for the drips.

The process begins with these spirits being poured into the hopper where it slowly drips into the waiting substrate below. This substrate - a mixture of exotic fruits, herbs and spices - is gently infused with the spirit dripping from above, slowly percolating, extracting every subtle nuance and flavour. After several hours, the perfectly balanced infusion accumulates in the bottom beaker, where it lies, ready to be consumed straight or mixed with a perfectly paired house-crafted mixer.

The final phase of the process is the garnish. Factory Floor have enlisted the services of Leaf & Shoot, Sheffield’s leading Bioponics lab, to create a bespoke vertical microgreen system where herbs such as fennel, coriander and red basil will grow, ready to add the final flare to your drink.

The Tanks
The beer at Factory Floor is as local as it gets- brewed directly on-site by Neepsend Brew Co. who recently moved their brewery from the banks of the River Don to join the bustling community of makers at 92 Burton Road.

Established in 2015, Neepsend Brew Co. pride themselves on a typically Sheffield approach to brewing, with no hype or hard sell, but concentrate more on creating beer that everyone can enjoy. It’s this same no-hassle approach that they’ve adapted to their tank installation at Factory Floor, with a hose linked directly from the vessel in the brewery, allowing the beer to be pumped straight into chilled tanks, which tower either side of the venue’s main bar. This direct tank-to-beer approach also reults in zero carbon footprint.

The Sounds
Imagine a venue where the sound moulds perfectly to its surroundings and traces the shape of its guests, where the deepest basslines and the crispest highs diffuse throughout the entirety of the space. That is the Danley Audio Sound, a ground-breaking technology, created by one of ‘the most innovative loudspeaker designers in the industry’, which has been imported direct from Florida and set up quadrophonically, ready to take their new residence at Factory Floor, providing the sounds from the suspended deck above the venue’s entrance.

The Space
Factory Floor isn’t just about the drink and as day turns to night, the stark industrial space of the venue takes on its true form. Complete with terrazzo concrete bar and industrial style lighting, reminiscent of the once gas-lit street lights of Neepsend and the sparks made in this former factory space, great care has been taken to create sleek, understated venue that also celebrates its industrial past.

Factory Floor opens to the public from Friday 4 September. Head to 92 Burton Road (S3 8DA) to be one of the first to experience this new one-of-a-kind venue. For more information visit: www.factoryfloor.bar
