Cycling in and around the City Centre

New cycling routes will make it easier to get into and around the city centre by bike. The Sheaf Valley Cycle Route is a major connection to other cycle routes in the city and will provide more cycling links if you’re travelling into the city centre.

Along with cycle stands across the city centre to park your bike, there's now also a managed Cycle Hub, with 140 spaces including parking for cargo bikes and non-standard bikes too. Safe and secure in a handy central location at Charter Square, it's open 24/7 with access to toilets and changing rooms too. There is also a shop open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

Sheffield's main railway station also has a dedicated Cycle Hub, which has recently been refurbished. Rub by East Midlands Railway (EMR), the Sheffield Station Hub is one of the largest of its kind at a UK station and offers secure parking for up to 452 bikes across two levels.

Public Transport

Already in town? Hop onto the Sheffield Connect Bus and make your way around the city centre with ease. The Sheffield Connect is completely FREE, seven days a week, across the core of the city centre.

SC1 service stops connect Rockingham Street, The Moor, High Street, Sheffield station, the Interchange and Sheffield City Hall, and a second route SC2 has been added to the Sheffield Connect service, linking to The Moor to Castlegate and West Bar and Charter Row, running every 20 minutes.

There will also be further improvements to how public transport moves around the city. These improvements will make journey times quicker, help to reduce congestion and contribute to cleaner air too.

Driving There

If you need to drive into the city centre, why not try park and ride? There are also plenty of other places to park, as well as disabled parking facilities. And you can find electric vehicle charge points in various places across the city, including car parks, if you have an electric car. You can check locations at Zapmap (zap-map.com).

Clean Air Zone

Please also be aware that Sheffield has a class c Clean Air Zone now active in the city centre, which will take us a step closer to cleaner air and a higher standard of health for all who live, work and learn in the city, as well as those who visit it.

While private passenger cars and motorbikes are not charged, high polluting heavy goods vehicles (HGVs), light goods vehicles (LGVs), vans, buses, coaches and taxis may be charged, so keep a look out for signs with the green cloud to know you’ve entered the zone.
