Sheffield has won the bid to host the annual International Stillbirth Alliance conference which will see 300 delegates from all over the world gather in the city across three days, 30 June - 2 July 2023.
Marketing Sheffield’s Conference Team identified the opportunity to bid for the event and were delighted when a team of experts from Sheffield Children’s Hospital and University of Sheffield agreed to collaborate with them.
The specialist team driving the conference includes Professor Marta Cohen, OBE, Consultant Paediatric and Perinatal Pathologist at Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust and Honorary Professor, Department of Oncology and Metabolism at the University of Sheffield, with support from Dr Elspeth Whitby, senior lecturer at the University of Sheffield and an Honorary consultant at Sheffield teaching hospitals NHS trust, and Professor Dilly Anumba, Professor of Obstetrics & Gynaecology at the University of Sheffield and Consultant in Obstetrics, Maternal and Fetal Medicine at the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Having worked hard throughout the uncertainty of lockdown over the last few months, the team are delighted the work on the bid has paid off and they have now secured the hosting of the conference in Sheffield in 2023.
The International Stillbirth Alliance (ISA) is a membership organization uniting bereaved parents and other family members, health professionals and researchers to drive global change for the prevention of stillbirth and neonatal death and bereavement support for all those affected.
Professor Marta Cohen OBE, Consultant Paediatric and Perinatal Pathologist at Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation said “I am thrilled that the International Stillbirth Alliance 2023 conference will be hosted here in Sheffield. The Conference, will take place at The University of Sheffield’s Diamond Building, with an opening reception in the Sheffield Winter Garden and a memorial service at St Georges Hall, while a gala dinner will take place at the magnificent Sheffield City Hall.
