Voluntary Action Research Group

The Voluntary Action Research Group at Sheffield Hallam University is one of the leading academic centres for research into voluntary action and voluntary organisations.

Their aim is to undertake research and evaluation which helps local, national and international voluntary organisations and their funders and partners demonstrate the impact they have, and to show the importance of voluntary action in everyday life.

It is a fantastic example of cross disciplinary academia providing research, insight, forums and support to voluntary action groups - particularly in policy developments.

Researchers within the group are also at the forefront of building the wider voluntary action academic community and ensuring that community is open to charity practitioners and wider networks.

Group members have leading positions within national research networks such as the Voluntary Sector Studies Network, and international associations like the Association for Research on Non-profit Organisations and Voluntary Action. Their research is a mainstay of leading conferences and journals around the world.
