Hillsborough Park

Hillsborough Park is located approximately three miles north-west of Sheffield City Centre, off the A61 Penistone Road.

It offers impressive play, sport and café facilities, as well as distinctive views, including a character row of poplar trees on the south side of the park.

The park is always open to the public, with a range of signage at the main gates to provide welcoming entrances.

Age UK Sheffield have recently redeveloped the park's Grade II listed Old Coach House into a lovely new cafe facility, which Depot Bakery are managing on their behalf, with takeaway and inside dining dining available.

Opening Times

Monday - Sunday: Open 24 Hours

Additional Information

Hillsborough Park Pump Track was opened in 2022, providing a brand-new ‘all wheels’ track for the community.

Hillsborough Park provides the current home for Sheffield's biggest annual music festival, Tramlines, which usually takes place on one of the last weekends of July each year.

The park is also home to one of Sheffield's official Parkruns and part of the national network, taking place weekly at 9am on Saturday mornings.

History

The park and its many listed buildings were originally used as a grand home belonging to the Steades family, before being passed on to other local landowners.

Eventually the land was divided up for auction and in 1890, part of the site was bought by the Sheffield Corporation to be used as a public park.

Hillsborough Walled Garden is also situated in Hillsborough Park, next to Middlewood Road, and dates back to 1779 when it was probably used to grow soft fruit for Hillsborough Hall.

Accessibility Information

The land is relatively flat, allowing good access around the site and providing a large area of open space for multiple activities
