In 1855, members of a Sheffield Cricket Club organised informal kick-abouts without any official rules.
Subsequently, two members, Nathaniel Creswick and William Prest, formed the Sheffield Football Club and held their inaugural meeting on 24 October 1857, establishing what is now recognised by the FA and FIFA to be the First and Oldest Football Club in the World.
Sheffield FC are also proud owners of a FIFA Centennial Order of Merit, one of only two clubs in the world to hold this honour.
The club has had a few homes over the years, but nowadays, they play at the The Home of Football Stadium on the outskirts of the Sheffield.
You can see a detailed historical timeline of the evolution of Sheffield FC and football in general, on their website here.
