Part 2 of a film double bill and showing as part of Black History Month 2024 - Intergenerational Fusion: Empowering Black Minds.

Belle is a 2013 British period drama film loosely inspired by the famous 18th century oil painting of Dido Elizabeth Belle.

Very little is known about the life of Dido Belle, who was born in the West Indies and was the illegitimate mixed-race daughter of Mansfield's nephew, Sir John Lindsay.

The fictionalised story centres on Dido's relationship with an aspiring lawyer and is set at a time of legal significance, as a court case is heard on what became known as the Zong massacre, a legal decision that was seen to contribute to the Abolition of the Slave Trade Act of 1807.

Directed by Amma Asante and written by Misan Sagay.

Part 1 of the Black British Classics Double Bill is Playing Away (1986) – tickets must be purchased separately. Tickets for each part are priced at £5.
