Black History Month 2024 Film Festival

In celebration of Black History Month 2024, Showroom Cinema celebrates the strength, creativity, and resilience of the Black and POC community.

This year, the authentic narratives theme of - Intergenerational Fusion: Empowering Black Minds - highlights ways the Black and diaspora communities learn from past generations, carrying forward their wisdom and achievements, and using that foundation to build a stronger future.

The film festival will run throughout October and features free events plus a wide range of screenings, including: - 5 October opening night showing of 'Rocks' (director: Sarah Gavron - 12 October double bill screening of 'Playing Away' (director: Horace Ove) and 'Belle' (director: Amma Asante) - 19 October another chance to view 'The Last King of Scotland' (director: Kevin MacDonald) - featuring a blistering Oscar winning performance from Forest Whittaker - 2 November festival closing event features a family-friendly film screening organised with Utopia Theatre and Young Black Film Curators.
