Reminiscing – Our Journey in Education and the NHS – Laura Serrant & Maxine Blake

Join Off the Shelf for an evening with two inspirational women who will talk about their extensive work in teaching and the NHS.

Professor Laura Serrant CBE is a multi-award-winning Leadership development and Inclusive practice specialist.   Her specialist consultancy focusses on Leading diverse teams (Leadership for inclusion). She is the author of over 100 articles and books, is a BBC Expert Woman and was named the 8th most influential Black person in Britain by the Powerlist 2018.  Her poem You Called…And We Came commemorates the anniversary of the Empire Windrush landing. This year marks 76 years of the NHS.

Sheffield based Maxine Blake is of Jamaican descent.  She has taught and managed in educational establishments across the country for 37 years before retiring in 2020. She holds a Master of Education degree from the University of Sheffield, focusing on post-16 education.  Her books include Teacher Bloopers and Potty Mouth Stories, Don’t Poo in the Pudding Bowl: Anecdotes from 13,414 days of Teaching and travel journals to assist women, in particular women of colour, to journey the world.
