From the Tokyo Olympics to triumph at the World Championships,Team GB wheelchair basketballer Charlotte finds a winning sports community in Sheffield.

‘It’s great to be a part of Sheffield’s sporting community. There’s such a variety of athletes and people get behind the action here. knowing you’ve got that backing really spurs you on.

The English Institute of Sport is a £24m multi-sport facility and venue of choice for athletes. With physio access and nutritional experts, it has everything I need all in one place.

Ponds Forge is great for all levels of swimming and diving — and it’s popular for the rapids too. It also has a gym, courts, a cafe and more. If you want to try something new, just give it a go.

Sometimes it’s nice to train outside and get some fresh air and sun. Hillsborough Park has some great courts and a lovely pond — it’s great to see the locals passing by and having fun.

If you’re into skating, iceSheffield contains two Olympic-sized rinks. It’s where our student ice hockey teams face off rivals. Go watch them play— it’s got such a great vibe.

When I joined Sheffield Hallam, they pointed me in the right direction for local teams, courts and facilities. My tutor also provided flexible lessons so I could continue to train without compromise.’
