Phlegm is a world-renowned artist, cartoonist, illustrator, and muralist, who lives in Sheffield but has painted walls across the globe. You can find lots of examples of his distinctive illustrative street art across the city, often featuring in urban landscapes and disused spaces.
Phlegm creates surreal illustrations to an untold story, weaving a visual narrative that explores the unreal through creatures from his imagination. His style has a sort of gothic storybook aesthetic, depicting his signature long-limbed half-human, half-woodland characters, in intricate monochrome detail.
Outside of Sheffield, Phelgm’s work adorn walls in countries including Norway, Canada, Switzerland, Sri Lanka, USA, Belgium, Poland, Italy, Slovakia, Spain and Australia, with each drawing a scene from a grand worldwide narrative.
In March and April 2019, Phlegm transformed an old factory on Milton Street in Sheffield, with an incredible large-scale immersive sculpture exhibition, called the Mausoleum of the Giants.
Bringing to life, the character’s from Phelgm’s world in a way he’d never done before, this incredible exhibition attracted over 12,000 visitors, with people travelling from all over and queuing up to 4 hours to experience it. It was a cultural event the likes of which, Sheffield had never seen before.
