Heritage. Uniqueness. Vibrancy. Independence.

These are kind of buzz words these days - and of course every city has them. We just don't think other places have them in such an overlapping, layered and contrasting way as we do.

And this couldn't be more apparent in some of our areas to explore.

Kelham Island

Kelham Island was named as one of the world's 51 coolest neighbourhoods in 2022 by Time Out. Once the beating heart of industry, Kelham Island is one of Sheffield’s oldest manufacturing sites, except nowadays these buildings house everything from indie shopping arcades to microbreweries and galleries.

Castlegate

Thanks to the Grey to Green project, use of meanwhile spaces, and inventive creations from markets to skateboard areas, Castlegate is seeing a total transformation.

Sheffield City Centre

Sheffield's City Centre is undergoing significant change, but while you may see a few more cranes and building work going on in places, this shouldn't detract from all the amazing places there still are to discover. From attractions such as the Winter Garden, Millennium Gallery and Sheffield Theatres to independent shopping and an array of great places to eat and drink.

Indie scene in Hillsborough

Hillsborough is experiencing something of a rebirth, with a fast-growing community of new independent businesses, bringing a fresher feel to the area.

Indie scene in Crookes, Walkley & Broomhill

Sharing the same hill, Crookes and Walkey are close enough to one another that you could easily take a shopping stroll round both in a morning or afternoon, and maybe even add on a visit to Broomhill too. All are home to a selection of unique retail businesses.

Indie scene in Abbeydale Road & Nether Edge

Also known as the Sheffield Antiques Quarter, the area along and around Abbeydale Road houses a diverse selection of quirky independents, and continues over into Nether Edge.

Indie scene in Ecclesall Road & Sharrow Vale Road

Ecclesall Road offers a three mile stretch of restaurants, coffee houses, pubs, bars and shops. Running parallel is the shorter but equally vibrant, Sharrow Vale Road.

Indie scene in Heeley & Meersbrook

Just over the other side of the Antiques Quarter, Meersbrook park boasts some of the best views you'll get of the city. Plenty of boutique food and drinks options on Chesterfield Road, and Heeley is the heart of community action.
