Bradfield is actually made up of two small villages, with High Bradfield up on the hillside overlooking Lower Bradfield below, which sits beside the River Loxley.
Clustered around the gothic Grade I listed Church of St Nicholas and the remains of a Norman motte and bailey castle, High Bradfield offers stunning views out across the Upper Derwent Valley, with the beer garden of The Old Horns a particularly pleasant spot to enjoy these.
Meanwhile Low Bradfield, centres on a quintessentially English cricket pitch and bowling green, where the Village Post Office doubles as an inviting tea room called Flask End.
With several spectacular reservoirs amongst the bounty of beautiful countryside on the doorstep, it’s not surprising the villages are popular with walkers, ideally located for both long-distance trails and a superb variety of shorter walks in the area.
Nearby, the Strines Inn, Bradfield Brewery and the award-wining ice cream parlour at the Our Cow Molly Farm are well worth incorporating into a day’s visit.
Low Bradfield is surrounded by four reservoirs. The closest of the four are Agden and Damflask, and the village is a great starting point for a picturesque waterside walk round one or the other – or both.
Delighting locals with their artisanal ice cream since 2007! Come up to the farm and enjoy an ice cream in their parlour or grab one of their bright pink benches outside and enjoy the stunning views looking out across Sheffield.
