Steve Peat, Downhill World Cup Champion of '02, '04 and '06, was born and raised right here. But unlike most elite sports people who need to move where the action is, he stayed right here because Sheffield has an amazing array of mountain biking right across the city.
From inner city trails at Parkwood Springs which overlook the city centre, to trails and plantations like Lady Cannings out on the city edge, Sheffield is littered with spots. And then of course there's great access out into sections of the Peak District and beyond.
A short video all about biking in and around Sheffield. Feel the hype.
Parkwood Springs is just a bit of an anomaly as far as MTB goes. So close to the city centre, you can stick your bike on a train from London and be here in 2hrs 30 if you wanted to, and have time to refuel in Kelham Island on the way back.
There are too many routes out to the Peak District, but a great one that you can do totally by pedal without needing a car is the Eastern Moors loop. Fill your rucksack and get out there for a day's adventure.
Whether you live here or are visiting - biodiversity, the climate and nature crises, and health and wellbeing are important aspects of life to consider.
We want to help everyone make Sheffield more sustainable, eco-conscious and biodiverse.
